@35739: Mc is more Scottish than Irish, though there are Irish Mcs. McDonald though is Scottish, comes from Domhnall. For some reason, when it became anglicised the Scots whacked a d at the end of it to come up with Donald. In Ireland the name Domhnall is anglicised as Donal. For the record, McDonald is an exceedingly common surname in Ireland and is exceedingly rare in Ireland.
