This is a good collection of Emi faces.
Still not polar though.
Probably because her disability doesn't stand out at all when she has pseudo legs and genki personality.

Though honestly it would be interesting if there was a paraplegic in the main-routes cast.

Well when you put it that way I feel like an ass, but if her disability is no legs, but is a star runner.... well I'm not seeing the struggle like... painting without arms.

The problem with Emi's writing, is that it doesn't portray that struggle, not that it wasn't there. She overcame her disability, and got out to run again. She lost her legs, which was surely traumatizing, but loved running so much she learned how to walk again on prosthetics, and running blades.

I like Emi when I look at her from that perspective. She's very driven and self-motivated, and doesn't afraid of anything. But when you meet her in the game you don't see that side of her. Not in a "she's not damaged goods" sort of way. But that people might be more interested her if they saw what she went through.

You want a broken bird who's struggling with her disability? That's Hanako in a nutshell. We don't need two of them.

Thats supposed to be everyone! To more or less of a degree. Shizune despite being aggressive and forceful is very dependent on Misha. Lilly cant see and there is no way this wont play further into her story. Rin has to adapt to not having arms to paint without any crutch like Emi's prosthetic, plus she like Shizune, depends on others a great deal for tasks that would be relatively simple with arms.
You know Hanako already but that leaves Emi in a awkward position of having a disability but no current break in her day to day living.
My problem has always been she is the "normal route" she fits into the game but isnt the broken bird character

I absolutely don't understand how people like you don't like Emi because she's the one who's not struggling with her disability. Again, it's like saying 'She's not broken enough.'

Is it that you want Hisao to be their white knight? Helping them through their stuggles? Because with the exception of Hanako's route, I don't thing we'll see much of that.

Shizune functions just fine with Misha. Even without her there isn't much she can't do on her own. Lilly knows her limits and is comfortable with them, though I'll concede that Hisao will probably help her out at times. Rin has already learned how to do anything she needs on her own. She's got it all figured out. Emi only helps her because she wants to. Emi herself needs no help at all. Hanako is the one who actually needs the white knighting.

Emi is a great character. She's happy, energetic, strong willed, caring, and passionate. She's mastered her disability and is thriving. Because of this, she helps others, and will help Hisao get healthier. I for one can't wait to play her route.

Not necessarily. Rin depends on Emi in order to go to the bathroom and when she's on her period. She can't do that on her own.

Again, Emi doesn't need to be white knighted. She's overcome her disability. The reasons she's not that poplar, is because in a game about overcoming disabilities. Emi seems like the end result of the game's conclusion. She's already done by the start of the game.

In a VN you arn't 'you', and if you knew an Emi in real life you wouldn't tell her "Step off bitch! I prefer my cripples BROKEN". In the VN other characters generally come off as more interesting to learn about then Emi does. I like Emi a lot and even I did her path last. Not to say her writing was bad but that I think misses the point.

I'm sure that by the time release comes you'll see her story from the Nurse, or something and the character will become more interesting. But during the demo she suffered from being too normal in a cast of abnormal people.

That's the difference for me. I don't see KS as a game about overcoming disabilities. It's a game about love. It's just that the girls you can love have disabilities.

As I've said before, you're not going to help anyone overcome their disability except Hanako and Hisao. I don't think this will be the theme in the other routes.

To each, their own, I suppose.

But I like Emi because she is the most normal of the cast. Especially personality wise. With Hanako being skittish and depressed, Shizune being hypercompetitive, Lilly being calm and mature, and Rin being Rin, Emi comes off as sweet, happy, and well dispositioned. Save for a bit of henpecking, she is a normal girl. Ironically, with the rest of the cast having their quirks, being normal is what makes Emi stand out, for me.

Emi's route may not even be about her disability. The focus may be on your disability. Hisao becomes Emi's broken bird. Its hinted at that she want you to become healthy and the Hisao isn't that motivated to improve his diet.

The amount of broken bird does depend on who you talking about. Lilly doesn't have a lot but her blindness will surely come up later and she is tied closely to Hanako who is the defacto broken bird of the whole cast being emotionally fragile. Rin can do what she can with her feet but since she cant even dress herself in the morning you know there is going to be a growing dependence on Hisao throughout her route. Shizune depends heavily on Misha to communicate with others and without learning sign language Hisao will never be able to completely understand Shizune.

But Emi first irritated me by how anti climatic her festival seen was, it just didnt compare to everyone else

Well is she broken enough?
The school is was made for broken people like Hisao, but Emi just, isn't broken enough to really need to be at the school. Every other girl qualifies in there own way
Shizune cant communicate by herself
Lilly and Kenji take special sight assisted classes
Rin cant preform normal activities and requires assistance
Hanako is physically and emotionally scarred and reclusive.
But Emi, Emi could do fine at a normal school, she doesn't need the special attentions others need.

Yes, so? I feel Emi is in Yamaku because she wants to be there.

Her accident probably required years of rehab and physical therapy for her to reach her current level. Immediately after the accident, she wouldn't have been able to go to her old school because she'd be in a wheelchair. So the solution would be to combine her school and place for rehab: Yamaku.

If she spent a lot of time there, she probably grew to like the school, and her peers. She even made a close friend in Rin. Now that she's better, I can see her not wanting to leave.

Also, she wants to give back, and help others who have it worse than she did. It's in her nature. This is why she's helping Rin, and later Hisao.

And really, I don't think Yamaku is the type of place that would kick someone out because they aren't disabled enough. Especially after being enrolled there for a long time.

I could be wrong, but with only the demo to go off of, this is how I see it.
