I'd like to think that it captures Hisao's mental self-image right before the bad end starts, when he realizes that he's been an apathetic jerk all week and has nothing better to do than drink with a paranoid.

To me he looks stern and accusatory, as if he's suddenly been made aware of the fact that there's a bunch of people obsessing over his life and relationships, sad, stunted, cynical half-people who sit alone in front of monitors instead going out and forming relationships of their own. He is glaring though his posture is relaxed. He pities us.
