Believe it or not, this IS actually Misha's original disability according to the devs. It was mentioned during that panel they had in Australia a while ago. However, I'm pretty sure they've changed it, as they though it was incredibly stupid in hindsight.
Crud: [...]And for a while I was saying why don’t we just make her gay and her parents go “Oh we can’t have that now in high class society so we’ll shove her in some school where no one will ever see her anymore”. So that was an early concept I had we’ve changed that now.
actually, i hope they kept the gay part, but obviously not as the main reason to get her into the school. it wouldn't hurt if she mentions something about being pushed away from her family on purpose though. hell, if they kept the idea in secret after all, (if it's written well enough) it could still work in some form. if anything, it would slow (but NEVAR stop) the misha path people. plus lesbian drills.
@24105: agreed. whole image is awesome, but Hanako's expression of leg-clutching love is so damn cute.
also, Misha kind of looks like Azula from Avatar: the Last Airbender in the bottom panel, and considering how often Azula's assumed to be a lesbian, I'm okay with this.
if they can keep it realistic (maybe even a bit subdued), it would be a wonderful layer of character, and admittedly add some depth to her other than just being loud enough for two people.
@24122: There's actually quite a few manga - usually not anime though, I guess - that depicts homosexuality in a realistic, mature manner although it is a rarity. Octave being a nicely done example of this, but it's obviously painful that there is a 99% to 1% ratio of retarded, generic anime-style gay to real gay in media. (that goes for most reality-like TV shows in real life too though) In-fact....how many straight relationships are depicted tastefully or well in any sort of media..? Close to none from my experience. /endwalloftext
Meh. Yuri pandering is overdone in extremis these days.
If it has to be done, I'd suggest leaving it ambiguous enough to tease with, but never stating it outright. Mystery and anticipation beats the comedown after a big reveal any day of the week.
@24136: Yeah, but a lot of the yuri in anime shows up as ambiguous teasing that doesn't mean anything in the end because homosex doesn't real, especially after high school.
And anything after high school doesn't exist in a lot of anime, so it's a moot point.
@24139: >homosex doesn't real, especially after high school
>anything after high school doesn't exist in a lot of anime
So, basically, the homosexuality happens during the only part of the characters' lives that actually gets shown.
Taking that into consideration, that means that it's the only part of their lives that EXISTS. Not a "moot point" at all, really.
Ah, poor Emi, she's envious of Misha, because she can never again feel the sensual pleasure of walking barefoot on all those fun surfaces, like sand, grass, asphalt, mud and burning hot coals.
@24163: It doesn't have to be yuri pandering. The devs have commented that they want this to be more than just a generic romance VN, they want to do "more" with the medium -- so why not have some sort of meaningful hontou no gay moments?
Hell, I think it would be cool if there was simply no yuri pandering at all, instead maybe after Hisao and Shizune start dating, Misha starts acting a little nasty to Hisao, at one point they're alone and Hisao asks about it, and Misha comes out to him. His response (homophobic or accepting) could earn him points to a bad end or good end, respectively!
I absolutely don't get how people can actually complain about yuri pandering. Seriously, considering the sheer abundance of M/F and M/M, it's almost offensive how few lesbian characters there actually are...in any form of media.
Also, it's HAWT. No way Yaoi or Het could compete with that. >:D
@34213: The devs admitted that she was always meant to be gay over half a year ago, Slowpoke. Although originally, that was going to be her "disability" (her parents sent to a school for the disabled to cure teh ghay). The devs quickly scrapped that idea since that's several levels of retarded, of course.
Lol, I can't believe this came back to bite us in the ass.
Misha really is a lesbian. She probably hooks up and has hot sex with Shizune in all routes but her own. Lucky Misha.
@34956: Oh, I don't know. Misha seems to be quite cheerful in both Lilly's and Emi's route, iirc. And with Hisao being taken by another girl, there must be a lot of pent-up emotional and sexual desire in Shizune.
@34959: In the other girls' routes, Shizune shows no interest in Hisao. They didn't click enough for her to build up any desire in him. It's the same situation as back before Hisao showed up.
I realize I'm arguing against happy lesbian sex, but it's only a few weeks until Misha graduates and meets one or more hot little numbers at teaching school or whatever.
